Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

I have begun to think about the next piece in my climate change protest art series. I have time. The Aussie government isn’t in any hurry to beat me to the punch line. Its climate action ambitions do not appear to be high, or low, or whatever. despite its own peculiar protestations.
There have been a number of polls over the last year that indicate a majority of Aussies are concerned about climate change and want the national government to do more to tackle climate change, including ruling out new coal and gas projects. However, the Government’s plans are best summed up by its latest campaign slogan, “can do capitalism”. Catchy, eh?
Today, my song/tune choice is F Major, composed and performed by Hania Rani. Because we don’t all need to go to Iceland to appreciate its beauty but we can spoil it by being too much, even on the other side of the world.
Tread lightly, everyone.
Kind Regards.
Tracy.
PS. Aussies, Simon Holmes à Court has established a fund raising entity, Climate 200, to support community action to elect to the Australian parliament independent candidates who are committed to climate change action and restoring integrity in politics.
Can do capitalism? What does that even mean??

I suspect it means nothing at all, ie. Not my problem, mate.

Stunning visuals in this post. I can’t even with the slogan…as a species humans are failing.

Unfortunately we are excelling at that, Natalie.

She hasn’t dragged that piano to the frozen wastes, surely? Or did she arrange an air-drop – ooops!
‘Can do capitalism’. Please translate.

Margaret, there are more details about the video on YouTube. It was filmed in Iceland in minus 7c temps.
I think that slogan means whatever you want it to mean, Margaret.

Sounds about right, for politicians. I’ll look up the pianist’s story. Sounds – bracing. Thanks!

I wonder what they think of when the rest of the world catches up that capitalism isn’t working 🙂

Right, neither capitalism or communism will work if you ignore the problem. Stupid. It’s right up there with “How good is Australia?”, don’t you think?

If I ever hear that again I will spew for sure. If you work from the ground up and have a good community base then the flow on upwards results giving a win win

I am glad I am not the only one (just read through above comments) who doesn’t get the slogan. Can’t even think about capitalism …
Beautiful piece of music … is that the sound of ice cracking I hear?

Make up something, Ju-Lyn. You just need to believe.
I’ll have to listen again to the video!

Isn’t can do capitalism what we’ve been enduring for yonks? Slogans are par for the course these days, what else can you expect from a failed adman?
I have great respect and admiration for someone who can play the piano in those temps. I would have climbed inside it in an endeavour to escape the harshness of the climate.

Endure is a good way to put it, Jane. It’s probably not can-do capitalism though given the subsidies and concessions to the mining sector. Seems odd to be supporting a mature sector like that. Where is the market failure they are trying to address? Hence the need for slogans, I suppose.
The dancers and Hania Rani seem under-dressed for those temps.

The Guardian says can do capitalism is ‘the latest slogan to describe how to do nothing while appearing to offer solutions’, which sums up our present leader perfectly!

I guess what they probably mean is they will do capitalism, and they don’t give a damn about how others feel!
That was such a lovely piece of music.

Thanks, Punam. God help us if coal and gas are the only industries keeping this country running.

Bah! What a stupid slogan! 😝 The music however is absolutely devine and the video fascinating! Imagine playing the piano in such cold winds! My fingers hurt just thinking of it!
We’ll see if our new government will handle things better climatewise. Being 1/3 green party should help, but then it’s all about politics so who knows?

Certainly is, Sarah. It’s false and misleading advertising. Incredibly our national government has no shame.
I hope your government handles it better. It would be hard not to.
