This time of year is not meant to be our rainiest season. Summer in Canberra (Australia) is normally quite dry. We usually get most of our rain in winter. But as you know, the climate is changing and Canberra may yet turn out to be a tropical paradise to rival sunny Queensland. November has been one windy, stormy month. You name it, we’ve had it – thunderstorms, a bush fire and a massive dust storm. We’ve barely seen our beautiful Brindabella mountains (hills for everybody outside of Australia). Read more
It is warming up in Australia. Today we had a big fry up on the outskirts of Canberra. The Pierces Creek Bushfire is believed to have been started from a burnt-out car. With temperatures in the mid-30s (celcius) and gale force winds, the fire quickly spread and has now burnt out 147 hectares of bush and farmland. The fire is not yet under control. Read more

Ah, June. I can’t believe we are already half way through the year. Winter is not a time that I particularly enjoy. It’s cold. It’s grey, and quite often miserable. Just to prove that it does get cold in Australia, I headed out on a particularly frigid day to one of our city’s parks. Rain had been threatening all day, but no sooner had I got out of my car and pulled out my camera, then the sun asserted itself in all its Winter glory. Read more

WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge — Prolific
I had decided not to enter this week’s photo challenge, but changed my mind today as I had the very good fortune to visit the amazingly beautiful Australian National Botanic Gardens. To my delight, there were many plants in full bloom. My little phone camera struggled with some of the smaller, more delicate flowers, but it absolutely loved the banksias. There is such a huge variety of banksias, and many were flowering prolifically. I hope you like them as much as my camera did. Read more
