Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.
Can you guess the tune?

The photo is of a soon-to-be new suburb on the outskirts of Canberra. Well, I don’t have a photo of the sprawling outskirts of Sydney (Australia’s largest capital city), and I won’t be going there for a while, if ever. Not my favourite place, ladies and gentlemen. It is a little too large for me. Lotta cars. Lotta cars. Lotta hard-working, hard-living people.
Sydney folk are struggling to get on top of the latest outbreak of coronavirus. It’s scary and scarring. Devastating for all concerned. The state Premier has extended the lockdown (I agree with the Premier that lockdown is a horrible word). She has also designated this August vaccination month. To date, only 14% of Aussies are fully vaccinated. Of course, I would like to know what the Premier is planning beyond August. Surely she would not ease all restrictions and allow the outbreak to seed into regions beyond Greater Sydney? I’m assuming that since the Premier has re-allocated some vaccine doses intended for rural communities to metro Sydney instead, that she will be mindful of the vulnerability of regional areas.
Show us how it’s done, Sydney. You can get it under control. Well, maybe not dick for brains who punched the police horse in the mouth during last weekend’s illegal lockdown protest. Sydneysiders, make sure you order that computer from JB because you’ll need a computer, and a good internet connection, to keep up with all the exposure sites. Anyway, it’s both a together thing and an individual thing being Covid-safe. But generally, it’s up to you. Bit like the Nutbush really.
International readers may not be aware that Aussies created a dance to Nutbush City Limits in the 1970s. I’ve heard it described as a line dance. What the *#^! I guarantee that no-one dancing the Nutbush in the discos and school halls across Australia during the 70s had ever heard of a line dance! You’ve got homework to do, ladies and gentlemen. Watch the dance vid below a couple of times, then grab your household contacts and dance your blues away. I would join you except I went for a longish walk today in hiking shoes that I hadn’t worn for a year. Let’s not go there.
Enjoy. It’s the 2016 Nutbush Party Fun at Ceroc.
Stay cool, everyone.
Kind Regards.
Tracy.
Kind of like a mix between the Electric Slide and the Macarena…maybe? The song I thought of was Willie Nelson’s ‘On the Road Again.’ Come on, Tracy. You can do it.

I thought of the Electric Slide and the Macarena as well!!

Let’s dance, Liz!! 😄

I’ll have to follow your lead on the dance steps. I never could figure them out!

I will have to check the Electric Slide this weekend, Lois. Willie Nelson! I didn’t expect that. I expected some Laura Brannigan guesses, but the clue was more cryptic with the flashing lights being a disco ball. Weird, right? 😉

i must admit my respect for Gladys’ sensibleness has dipped over the last few weeks. She’s still picking and choosing what medical advice she listens to. I really hope for the sake of Sydney-siders (and secretly/selfishly for Canberra siders) that she gets serious soon and really tries to nip it in the bud. She’s treated it like COVID round one. We just don’t have the vaccination rates to go the way of England.

IMO, there is a lot of international evidence that gets ignored, especially if it doesn’t come out of the UK or US.

Looks like aerobics class to me. I don’t know. I think politicians are torn (irrelevantly) between their popularity and doing what’s right. It’s sad and troubling.

The frustrating thing is that the outbreak is much worse than it needed to be, Martha, and therefore ultimately self-defeating.

Exactly. 😦

I remember that song, but didn’t know you had created a dance to it! Fun! and we read about covid attacks rising again in Tokyo. Take care in Australia too.

There is no other option for us Aussies, Ann-Christine. Yes, quite concerning in Japan and a myriad of other places too. I see that 40% of Swedes are fully vaccinated and 60% have had at least one dose. That sounds very promising, Ann-Christine. Hopefully that number will go up even further. Our government has told us that we will need to get to 80% for no more lockdowns.

Yes – more vaccinated is needed to get rid of this thing. What scares me are all the antivaccers and their obvious neglection of what happens if we don’t fight the virus all of us. Delta is not a game, and more mutations will come if we don’t have a high percent of vaccinated people.

Don’t get me started on the latest [completely preventable] Covid search in the US.

It must be so frustrating, Liz. I have kooks in my own extended family. I do wish the person concerned would consult a doctor rather than social media or a naturopath.

It’s doubley frustrating because I’ve taught critical thinking for years. CRAAP test, anyone? https://researchguides.ben.edu/source-evaluation

I checked the link, Liz. It is a good methodology. Unfortunately I’ve realised that despite my professional background, I have been unable to convince even my extended family on some critucal policy matters and I am afraid that this is even less likely today as the value of an apolitical public service has been completely trashed.

Sadly, I think you’re correct that Right Reason and Good Sense will not prevail. (I blame my parents and my education for my believing that they would.)

You’ve really got me feet itching for a dance party now, Tracy! The kind we had for my 40th and the kind we would’ve had for Marilize’s birthday earlier this year if it hadn’t been for this wretched virus.

I hope you put the Nutbush on your next dance party song list, Dries. There are worse things you could be doing at the moment than practising your dance moves.
Are you able to get out to the nature reserves at the moment? We can, but it is not encouraged. We have finally had a couple days of dry weather and sunny skies. It did wonders for my mood.

Thankfully our reserves are also open, Tracy – the three of us actually went walking at our “local” this morning at sunrise, which was such a beautiful way to start the weekend!

It makes a huge difference, doesn’t it? I look forward to any snaps you might have taken.

Do you mind if I continue lying on the couch watching the Olympic sailing? I spent most of the day in the garden doing the July cut back and am feeling a little lethargic. As ex Sydney siders we have quite a lot of friends living there, and also our children. They are managing so far, but it isn’t easy. I believe another demo is organised for tomorrow. What foolish and selfish people the demonstrators are.

You go right ahead and do whatever is necessary to get through this, Jane. It is just awful and I really for everyone caught up in this. Maybe I should have Rod Stewart for you next week?
With any luck, my No. 1 child is working in your general region week after next and hence I’ve been reading about the national parks up there. When you get off the couch (no rush), there looks like there are some great spots you could visit.
I hope that demo gets no coverage.

Don’t remember that craze getting to NZ in the 70’s. But then I as maybe to busy child rearing…

So this is nutbush dance! Reminded me of school dances. With Australian Jesuits it was expected I guess!
Is there any way we could do away with the politicians? Nah, don’t answer. I know…sigh….

The Adelaide Fringe Festival have put out a good tutorial on YT if you are interested in learning the dance. It burns a lot of calories. 😊 However, it looks like you can still go out running, Ju-Lyn.

Thanks for the link, Tracy – I will have a peep.
Yes, we are still able to go out for exercise – there are no restrictions there, only that we are not in groups of more than 2. I have found fairly quiet places to run, sometimes I have the pavement all to myself. So I have respite in this regard.

Oh, that’s nice. You must run at anti-social hours. 😉

Not really – I should probably start off earlier in the mornings but I don’t like it when there isn’t enough light. I choose less travelled pavements intentionally.

Fun line dance! COVID really teaches something about humanity! People won’t get vaccinated because it impinges on their freedom of choice, but what about the people around them?
