The Changing Seasons – March 2021

Canberra (national capital of Australia) – March in satire. The empathy, or something, flows.

[This post contains material of a satirical nature. International readers should feel free to concentrate on the photos and disregard the sub-text.]

Spat in our eye then unleashed tears they learnt to cry in empathy training.

If Butterflies Were Wishes

Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

Part of a Canberra mural

Covid has been spreading rapidly in Papua New Guinea and the situation is now very serious. I hope the Australian government offers our neighbours as much help as possible to deal with this crisis. Today I share a song from PNG singer/songwriter, George Telek, called Abebe. It is a song about butterflies. Enjoy.

Take care, everyone, and look out for your neighbour.

Kind Regards.
Tracy.

Blue Sky Thinking

Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

Like many in Group 1b which has been designated by Australia’s national Cabinet as high priority for the Covid vaccination, I heeded our government’s invitation to make an online booking for my first Covid shot. I was a little mystified as to why the invitation was extended at all given that the vaccination program for the highest priority group (ie. our quarantine and frontline health workers, as well as aged care residents) hasn’t been completed yet and the vaccine is in short supply, but I guess our nimble government can walk and chew gum at the same time. So, I thought I would try to book an appointment anyway. You never know, I might get lucky. Picture this, 6 million of us in the 1b priority group trying to make a booking at the same time. Of course, not all of us in that group tried to book but a large number did make the effort. As you can imagine, it wasn’t a happening thing.

Collecting My Thoughts

Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

Think first, speak later. That sums up my week. So I’ll keep it short, literally, with Six Bagatelles for Woodwind Quintet. Written by György Ligeti and performed by Danish woodwind group, CARION,  Enjoy.

Please be kind, everyone.

Regards.
Tracy.

When Work Sucks

Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you. This week I have two pieces of music to tell a sordid story of potential abuse and dereliction of duty of care.

When I was a young lass and fresh out of uni, I applied for a job as electorate officer in the then PM’s office. I recall sitting in the foyer waiting for my interview. Coincidentally at that moment the PM appeared down the hall, a halo of light fell on him as he sauntered back to his office after Question Time. He oozed confidence. The Treasurer followed, also cock sure of himself. All the office staff leapt to their feet to stand as the great man passed. I didn’t know what to do. Should I stand or stay seated? I wondered whether I would have to leap to my feet every time the PM came into the room? This did not sit well with me, so I stayed seated. After all, who did he think he was? The PM? I didn’t get the job. I was pretty enough but the other applicant had more relevant experience. Fair enough. That wouldn’t have been hard in this town.

Salt-Tea

It is that time of the month again when we are invited to join the lovely Su (aka Zimmerbitch) for an afternoon tea get-together and chat in the blogosphere. Pull up a chair wherever you are and join in some socially distant camaraderie. It is also my Friday song day so we are doubly lucky to have a song to go with our arvie tea.

Hello Handsome

Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

I think it is time for a sing-along, don’t you? As it is Valentine’s day next week, I thought I would have a Valentine’s song for all my friends, especially my best friend. Now I don’t normally do the whole Valentine’s Day thing because every day is like Valentine’s day for me, and if you believe that you will believe anything. A Valentine’s song needs a Valentine story, so you are in luck.

Double Fault

Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

Over the last fortnight we’ve been importing coronavirus cases so that Aussies can sit back and watch the Australian Open tennis. It’s good for tennis and good for the Victorian state economy apparently. As you can imagine, some residents of the fair city of Melbourne (where the tournament is being held) are none too happy with the latest virus breakout via a worker at one of the Australian Open quarantine hotels. Melburnians spent six months sheltering at home last year so they are entitled to be a bit miffed. It also does not seem fair on the quarantine workers who risk their health every day to ensure that the rest of the country can live virtually virus free.

Eating Her Heart Out

Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

What a week it has been! Due to a series of unfortunate events, Makea dog found herself in a room alone with a lidless bin of dog kibble. As a result, she also found herself at the emergency vet for several days with an intestinal blockage and a gelatinous mass of dog kibble crushing her vital organs. Yep, she had bloat which is a serious medical emergency. After two days on IV fluids, she is home again and that mass is on the move. At least it was. I won’t be resting easy until she is back to her normal barky self. Touch wood, she has avoided complex and risky stomach surgery.
