Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

I think it is time for a sing-along, don’t you? As it is Valentine’s day next week, I thought I would have a Valentine’s song for all my friends, especially my best friend. Now I don’t normally do the whole Valentine’s Day thing because every day is like Valentine’s day for me, and if you believe that you will believe anything. A Valentine’s song needs a Valentine story, so you are in luck.

When I first met my fiancé and husband-to-be, I bought him a couple of T-shirts when I went on a work trip. I might have tossed one out in the intervening years but because we are still in lurv, I made him go find the other one which was stuck in the back of a cupboard so that I could show it to you. Check out the print on it.

You know when your new girlfriend gives you a shirt like that, she means business. In any case, we still enjoy a good, ahem, sing-along. As they say, you can’t keep an old bird down.

Anyway, here is a song you can sing over and over. It has been covered several times so if you don’t like the version I’ve chosen, you can try out another version. The song is Wagon Wheel, lyrics by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor (of Old Crow Medicine Show). The song featured on Old Crow Medicine Show’s 2004 album. It then became a big hit in 2014 when Darius Rucker did a cover. However, I’ve chosen Aussie group, Women In Docs’ rendition. I’m not sure when I first heard them sing it. I think it was in the noughties at a folk festival somewhere.

Grab your partner, child or dog and sing it with me.

Stay safe and be kind.

Kind Regards.
Tracy.

  1. I think despite all our (at least mine) protestations, we are romantics at heart! I went all moony eyed looking at the t-shirt. How fabulous. God bless you both. ❤️
And what a fantastic song! 🙂

  2. Oh wonderful. Like you, we don’t do the whole Valentine’s Day thing, especially anything that smacks of commercialism. Romantic gestures are best when not dictated by a diary date.

  3. I do like covers because many times parts of the original recording appear highlighted in a new light. My suggestion is “Linger” (Cranberries) acoustic cover by the Running Mates Band. YouTube
Tracy the song “Wagon Wheel (cover) by Women in docs is full of energy and fun. I can imagine folks line dancing in Doc Martins.
