My friend, Sarah from Art Expeditions is hosting the 30 Days, 30 Songs! challenge and I thought I would join in for the Day 3 shenanigans.
Sarah chose Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun for her song today. What a fantastic song! I love that song, and I know I’m showing my age, but there were many discos held in my lounge room dancing to that song when it first came out. Around the same time, the Communards did a cover of Don’t Leave Me This Way. What an era for dancing that was. As you can imagine, I nearly wore a hole in my carpet from all the dancing. So I think I’ll go with that as my song pick for Day 3. I also note that WordPress has just announced its support for Pride Month so the timing couldn’t be better to pay tribute to these talented people.
I’m losing control. I won’t be satisfied until I have a sing. Sing it with me.
It is not too late to join the Challenge. Click here to create a pingback to Sarah’s Day 3 post.
I’ll be back tomorrow if I can think of any more favourite songs.
Kind Regards.
Tracy.
Yay! Yay! Yay! I’m still singing and dancing typing this on my phone!! 😄 Such a cool, cool song! This challenge gets better each day thanks to you, Tracy! 😍

Tracy, I’ve never heard this song before (I’m probably older than your mom) so this was a fun introduction to something that could be an anthem for a lot of people.

You may be surprised how old I am, Sharon. However, in my head, I’m only 18. 🙂 Thelma Houston had a hit with this song in the States in the mid 70s.

Yay for dancing music. I’ve been listening to ‘Small Town Boy’ recently; I love Jimmy Sommerville’s Voice.

Small Town Boy was my other choice, Su. 🙂

Pretty sure Bronski Beat were the first out and openly gay group, such courage back then.

You are probably right about that, Jenny.

I’m waving my arms from side to side like they did on Countdown.

I’ve come to the realisation that Countdown made this country a more open-minded place than it might otherwise have been. How lucky we were to have it. 🙂

We were, sometimes it was cheesy but it was a Sunday evening ritual at our house.

I loved the original by Thelma Houston when I was 13, so when the Communards released this I was sceptical, but oh boy, a fantastic dance song (I’m in the office by myself today, use your imagination to think what I’m doing while it’s playing!!).
The ’80s were a fantastic era for clubbing and I was very fit from all the dancing, still do it, but not so lithe, so my loungeroom is the place that I do it now 😉

Jenny, you’ve made my day. I think work would be much better if workplaces incorporated a little lunchtime dance party. But, the earworms! 🙂

Great song choice, you’ve got me dancing! I’ve never heard this cover before.

A few people are dancing today so that has to be a good thing. 🙂

It is a firm favourite with many people I think, Xenia. 🙂

I have never heard this song before, Tracy, and I’ve listened to a lot of music in my life! Was it an 80s song? I used to listen to Triple M on my way to and from work at that time. I couldn’t possibly name favourites as there are just too many.

Yep, an 80s song, Jane. I think I was mostly listening to commercial radio in those days. It was probably a song that was played often at night when I was supposed to be writing essays for uni. 🙂

Enjoying your choices, though.

It is getting easier to think of tunes/songs I love. But only 30, That is less than one for every year of my life!

I’m having the same problem — and I missed the first couple of days. We might have to make this an annual thing!!!

Quite possibly. I think some of my favourites might be posted by other people though. 🙂

I don’t think that matters; in fact it makes it more interesting to read how different people came to the same music.

I sang and dance on this song so often in my teens. Now you can guess my age. Lol
