WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge  —  Twisted

Since the Weekly Photo Challenge is to be discontinued, I thought I should put in an entry this week.  I had no idea when starting my blog that I would enjoy the WordPress Weekly Challenge so much.  I will miss it, but I will just have to be brave and jump into some of the other photo challenges every now and then.  In the meantime, here is my response to the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge theme of ‘Twisted’.  For this challenge, I found inspiration in craft.

There is something very special about hand-made crafts.  Meet Ollie, the Octopus.  I fell in love with him as soon as I saw him.  He was made by Tania, who I met recently at Murrumbateman Farmers’ Market.  It was Tania’s first market.  According to Tania, Ollie was very difficult to make and caused her quite a few headaches.  Hmm, I think any artist can relate to that.  That’s half the fun though.  Just look at Ollie; he’s so sweet!  Tania’s crochet-animals are truly unique.  She doesn’t yet have a website, otherwise I would share it with you.

Here is Kate, one of the owners of my favourite cafe, Trader & Co, at Yass.  Trader & Co are big supporters of local craftspeople.  Today, Kate is making a crown of eucalypt leaves for her friend’s birthday party.  Why buy when you can twist?

This beautiful macrame piece is a work of art.  It hangs at Trader & Co.  There was a time when I thought macrame was a bit daggy (that’s an Aussie colloquialism for a bit daggy unfashionable).  When I was growing up, my mother used to have several macrame pot plant holders.  I was rather dismissive of them, but now I yearn for some macrame pot holders of my own.  Oh my goodness, I think I am turning into my mother!

And you just can’t go past a good tea-cosy.  I once gave my mother a rooster tea-cosy.  Tea- cosy makers are such creative people, don’t you think?  Note to readers – I cannot crochet or knit.

  1. Nice pictures of the twisted prompt challenge! I’m curious as to why you mentioned the weekly challenge is going away? Does that mean you’re not going to participate? I didn’t see a notice that it was being discontinued?

    2. Thank you, Shelley. Ben Huberman of the Daily Post posted that the WordPress Daily Prompt, the Community Pool, and I thought he also said that the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge would not continue beyond the end of this month. I hope I’ve got that right. Maybe do a search. I’ll also check. This effectively means that any photo challenges have to be organised by individual bloggers.

  4. I can both knit and crochet, but I could never attempt either the octopus or the tea cosy. Some people are admirably creative, aren’t they.

  6. Oh! Ollie is so adorable! What clever crocheting! I love it when people do these things. And the macrame is so lovely. My grandma also used to have potholders made of it and I always liked following the patterns with my eyes. And although I do knit and crotchet I haven’t done anything that complicated yet. The tea-cosy is sooo cute – I don’t know if I should eat it or just admire it. 😉

      1. Much like you, she manages to capture movement and character in her work. I’ve only met her a few times in her gallery but I love her work and she is lovely to talk to.
