Welcome to my regular Friday song/tune day, ladies and gentlemen, where I pick a piece of music that reflects my mood or the times, to share with you.

What a week it has been! Due to a series of unfortunate events, Makea dog found herself in a room alone with a lidless bin of dog kibble. As a result, she also found herself at the emergency vet for several days with an intestinal blockage and a gelatinous mass of dog kibble crushing her vital organs. Yep, she had bloat which is a serious medical emergency. After two days on IV fluids, she is home again and that mass is on the move. At least it was. I won’t be resting easy until she is back to her normal barky self. Touch wood, she has avoided complex and risky stomach surgery.

On the plus side, as a result of getting her bottom shaved due to the consequent bout of diarrhoea today, the vet found a lump next to her anus. As I am not in the habit of feeling around her bum, we might not have found the lump for quite some time yet. She is booked in for a lumpectomy in March.

The kitchen is now well and truly closed.

  11. Poor Makea – but you got her to the vet in time! And our Totti, who now is thirteen, has had surgery for three lumps – all benign. Hopefully Makea’s is as well! Take care and stay well. Big hugs to you and Makea. ♥

    1. Thankfully we didn’t hesitate to take her to the vet, AC. We were a bit unsure whether to at first. We didn’t even know she had eaten the extra kibble until after the xray was done on her tummy, so we couldn’t help feeling that we were over-reacting to rush her off when she showed the initial symptoms. She is tired but improving today and like you I am hoping that the lump is benign. She’s only eight and I still think of her as a teenage dog! I’m glad Totti’s lumps were benign.

  12. Poor Makea, and poor YOU! Thank goodness there was a good outcome to that event. Hopefully the the lump will be excised without too much trauma, although I imagine the conical plastic hood will be a necessity!

    1. We might have to spend another month on the couch, Jane! We were just starting to get some energy back. Makea is improving today. March seems such a long time off but surgery slots at my vet are booked out six weeks ahead. I think I will need cones for all the dogs to prevent curious sniffers from getting too close.

      She’s a very sweet girl. Makea is a Finnish Lapphund and makea means sweet in Finnish.

  18. While I’m very sorry she had the blockage, I’m glad it caused that lump to be found! I hope that the test results are good, but whatever they are, the fact that it has been found and can be dealt with is a good thing. Sending healing vibes for Makea and wishing peace for you. You’ve had a rough time!
