Canada cancelled its order for certain, some might say sub-standard, American war planes. Australia is still committed to purchasing those particular planes despite grave concerns about their outlandish cost and suitability (see Lowy Institute, ABC Background Briefing). Meanwhile, Canada has bought Australia’s retiring fighter jets instead.
In Australia, there has been much discussion about how we are going to pay for the budget measures taken to cushion the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic (totaling $320 billion across the forward estimates). Apparently it is young people who are bearing the economic brunt of this pandemic and who will be largely responsible for paying back the associated public debt that is being racked up.
