Happy lovey dovey day, everyone.  It sounds like I’m not sentimental, but first impressions can be deceiving.  After nearly 25 years of marriage (drats, I think I forgot my last wedding anniversary), I am still as much in love with my gorgeous man as the first time I ever saw his face.  We don’t do the whole Valentine’s Day thing, but as I forgot our last anniversary, I’m going to have to make it up to him somehow.  My love wouldn’t have forgotten the big day, but as it coincides with another apparently important anniversary, he would have felt it rude to overshadow the other event, unless of course I happened to mention it first.

To get in the mood for this lovey dovey day (and in the interests of this post), I’ve been listening to some of my favourite love songs/tunes (see my list below).  I fear this list may tell you more about me than you would care to know, but I thought I would share it with you anyway.  Here goes:

  • Magnolia Tree — The April Maze (cover).  The original Truckstop Honeymoon track is also fabulous.  (We don’t have a magnolia tree.  Better get one.)
  • The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face — Roberta Flack (I really did feel the earth move.)
  • Secret Love — Doris Day  (I shout it from the highest hill too.  Really loud so that he can hear me from outside.  There is no escape.)
  • Concerto For Clarinet And Orchestra In A (K. 622), Adagio — Mozart (This piece always makes me think of Robert Redford washing Meryl Streep’s hair in the film, Out of Africa.  Isn’t that the most romantic scene you’ve ever seen in a movie?)
  • Szerelem, Szerelem (Love, Love) — Marta Sebestyen (This folk tune was included in the soundtrack of my love’s favourite film, The English Patient.  I can’t imagine why my love wants to put himself through the heartache of watching that film.  But we both love the song.  There is something very poignant about it.  It is a lament as well as a love song.)
  • My First, My Last, My Everything — Barry White (Barry’s voice gives me shivers.  My love gives me shivers too.)
  • Kiss — Prince (‘Nuff said,)
  • You Sexy Thing — Hot Chocolate (RIP Errol Brown.  Errol Brown wrote this song for his wife.  Aww.)
  • FamilyMan — King Curly (It is tiresome being a family man.  One day my love will retire, the kids will leave home, and we can make beautiful music together and get intimate.)  And, finally,
  • Do You Want to Dance — Bette Midler (Better make a cake in case he doesn’t want to, dance that is. Instead we can have a nibble.)

If you are interested in hearing any of the other love songs listed, you can search for them in the usual places.  You never know, they might get you in the mood for lurv.

    Colors of the Wind
    Have you Ever = Brandi Carlile

    Some others but they’re all sung (in my mind) to the beautiful place where I live. The “man” in my life is 7000+ miles away and our relationship is very solid. 😀

      1. I was thinking about your list when Madness’s ‘It Must be Love’ came on the radio, so I’d have to add that. And it’s musically similar to The Beach Boys ‘God Only Knows’, so it goes on too.
        T’s and my song is ‘Japanese Overdrive’ by Luke Hurley —which no-one will have heard of. He’s local (as in busks at the local market) but the song is beautiful. https://youtu.be/htdp0jMuv70

      2. Yep, the Madness song should definitely go on the list. I can see why love that Luke Hurley song. It is fabulous. Obviously inspiring you and the Big T to make a tree/sea change. 🙂 I remember the first photo of yours that I saw, Su. It was a long road with a mountain in the distance. I could completely relate to that sense of freedom that goes with the road trip. 🙂
