WordPress Daily Prompt — Bestow

I don’t suppose I’ve told you that I love my little birds?  Here is my latest mosaic project.  This weekend, I plan to bestow this gift on my friends, who’ve just bought their first house.  I hope they like it.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, my book review is progressing slowly and I’ve started a drawing for my next mosaic project (an orangutan).

Missed my other bird mosaics?  See here.

There is a lot to be angry about in this world, but take a deep breath and be kind.

Choose peace.

Regards
Tracy

  1. This is beautiful!!! Your post made me think of “The Darkling Thrush” by Thomas Hardy so I’ll share it with you.

I leant upon a coppice gate
    When Frost was spectre-grey,
    And Winter’s dregs made desolate
    The weakening eye of day.
The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
    Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
    Had sought their household fires.

The land’s sharp features seemed to be
    The Century’s corpse outleant,
    His crypt the cloudy canopy,
    The wind his death-lament.
The ancient pulse of germ and birth
    Was shrunken hard and dry,
    And every spirit upon earth
    Seemed fervourless as I.

At once a voice arose among
    The bleak twigs overhead
    In a full-hearted evensong
    Of joy illimited;
An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small,
    In blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
    Upon the growing gloom.

    So little cause for carolings
    Of such ecstatic sound
    Was written on terrestrial things
    Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
    His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
    And I was unaware.

    1. Oh Martha, thank you for the Thomas Hardy poem. I love it. It is a perfect accompaniment for my post. It actually made me a bit teary because it reminded me of the Lieder that my son wrote for that poem for a music composition course in highschool. His lieder still needs work but if I can find it, I will post it for you one day.

My son wanted to be a professional clarinet player, but he abandoned that idea, and is now studying environmental science.

      1. Oh wow. I’d love to see it! Maybe one of my friends who has an instrument (they are all string players, though) could play it.

I read that poem the first time when my dad was in the nursing home 3 mos before he died. It was November, a day just like in the poem. I was sitting with my dad and doing homework. I read it to him. I really really love it.

  2. It’s lovely Tracy, and what a Lind thought to make it for your friends. I like the title of your post-have the song in my mind now!

  3. I bet your friends gonna love it, Tracy!! It’s so beautiful! And I look forward to see your mosaic of the orang utan! Such wonderful creatures and so badly mistreated in our world… You’re right when you say that there’s a lot to be angry or get mad about – being kind to each other seems to become a bad habit…

    1. They did love it, Sarah. It will welcome all their visitors to their new house.

I may not be able to start the orangutan mosaic until Spring, and it warms up enough for my glue. I work outside. I have finished the drawing though, so I will be ready to go when the time comes. I normally do a few drawings over Winter so that I have a couple of projects to work on as soon as the weather allows.
